Orangeries
The orangery originated in Renaissance Italy during the 15th and 16th centuries. Inspired by classical Roman architecture, they were originally built to grow the citrus fruits beloved of Mediterranean nobility - hence the term ‘orangery’.
One of the main differences between an orangery and a conservatory is that there is more brickwork in an orangery and more glasswork in a conservatory, although the differences can be very subtle.
